Welcome to Albergue Alfonso II el Casto, new hostel in Melide. It is located in the center of Melide, 150 meters from the church and the historic center and 200 meters from the leisure and shopping area. It is located in a residential and quiet area, ideal for recharge your batteries.

Homage to King Alfonso II the Chaste, King of Asturias (791-842) who was a fundamental character in the history of the Jacobean Route. The legend places him on the Camino, when he heard about the discovery of the body of the Apostle.

In the place of the holy discovery, a small community of Augustinians was installed, which constituted the first nucleus of what would later become Compostela. Alfonso II himself reported the prodigious event to Charlemagne, and the news spread rapidly throughout Europe.

This is what is related in the Codex Calixtinus written by Aymeric Picaud. The reality coincides with the legend in the fact that Alfonso II ordered the construction of a temple dedicated to the Apostle.

The appearance of the figure of Santiago helped the Christians to recover their dominions and to turn Compostela into the main focus of spiritual attraction of the Asturian-Leonese Kingdom, and soon after of all Europe.
